With the Content Hub you've the abilty to use the DAM (Digital Asset Management) module. This allow you to take control over all your digital assets. How and when they can be used. The whole purpose of the Content Hub is to be place where all content is created, stored and maintained.
With this in mind you no longer want the endpoints (read Sitecore XP) to store the digital assets themself. You would rather have them point to the Content Hub. The Content Hubsupports this by creating public links. Allowing anyone with the public link to view / retrieve the asset.

Altough you can use this functionally, it's easier to use the Sitecore XP plugin to interact with the Content Hub. This offers more functionality from within Sitecore XP, like search, creating public links, etc. In the video below you can see the connection between the two Sitecore products.
